HHS Proposes Issuance of OCR HIPAA Audit Surveys

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a proposed Information Collection Request (ICR) seeking to collect approximately 1,200 surveys from covered entities and business associates in preparation for the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Audit Program.  The surveys will gather information including, but not limited to, the number of patient visits or insured lives, use of electronic information, revenue, and business locations. The OCR will use survey results to evaluate the size, complexity, and fitness of a respondent for a HIPAA audit.  HHS is accepting comments on the proposed ICR until April 25, 2014.
