HHS Issues Final Rule Regarding ICD-10 Compliance Date.
The Department of Health and Human Services recently issued a final rule, which confirmed October 1, 2015 as the compliance date for health care providers, health plans, and health care clearinghouses to transition to the tenth revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10). The ICD-10 codes will enable doctors to capture more information and better understand details regarding the patient’s health. The ICD-10 codes will also provide researchers and public health officials a method to better track diseases and health outcomes.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has implemented testing to help ensure providers are ready, including end-to-end testing in 2015. The compliance date of October 1, 2015 will allow providers time to ensure their systems and business processes are ready.
