CMS Updates Stage 2 EHR Tip Sheet

The Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS) recently updated a tip sheet on Stage 2 of the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive programs.  The tip sheet outlines necessary data elements for the clinical summary, patient electronic access, and summary of care measures.  Key highlights are as follows:

Clinical Summary: Information that is available in the EHR at the time the clinical summary is provided must be part of the clinical summary issued to the patient.

Patient Electronic Access: EPs are required to enable patients to view, download, and transmit their electronic health information within 4 business days of the information being available to the provider.

Summary of Care:  EPs must ensure that when a patient is transitioning care, the receiving provider has the patient’s most up-to-date health information through a summary of care.
